Community Mural Project with Desert Pen!
After school on September 7th, Local muralist Peniel Macias, who created many murals in the greater Tucson, visited out school and created mural parts together with our students at Tucson Japanese Langauge School. This project is called "Radical Unity". This project involves “a mural of a little girl blowing on a dandelion, with te seeds spreading in the wind, representing the impact of an act of kindess on a community”. Today, the students painted these dandelion seed parts by creating their own colors themes, patterns, and designs. The dandelion seeds are made of wood, and everyone vividly colored them with Japanese Poster Color Markers. When we asked about the completion date of the mural, Peniel, who has worked on these parts with 9 groups so far, said it would be finished in a few weeks by October. It will be displayed inside of Tucson Park Place Mall. It's so exciting to see those small parts we colored come together to create a one big beautiful mural, isn't it? Thank you, Pen, for creating this great opportunity for our school and let us be part of the community project. We look forward to seeing more of her artwork around town!
